WASHINGTON YOUTH TOUR
Gibson EMC sponsors the annual Washington Youth Tour short-story contest for high schools juniors, awarding seven students and one teacher an expense-paid trip to Washington, DC. Trip winners have the opportunity to compete with other overall winners throughout the state for one of three scholarships ($3,000, $2,000, and $1,000). Students who participate are entered in a drawing for one of six $500 scholarships to be given away at our annual meeting each year. Click HERE to learn more.
SAFETY DEMONSTRATIONS
Our personnel regularly present safety demonstrations to school groups of all ages throughout our service area.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Each year, the Cooperative sponsors two high school juniors for the Youth Leadership Summit in Nashville, two for the Kentucky Youth Tour in Frankfort and as many as eight middle school students per year for participation in 4-H Electric Camp in Knoxville. Area 4-H Clubs also are supported in various means throughout the year.
LOCAL ADULT & YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Gibson EMC supports youth and adult leadership programs throughout Gibson EMC's service area.
INTERNET FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS
Fiber has been connected by Gibson EMC to schools in Lake, Obion, Crockett and Gibson counties. This service has allowed the schools to economically communicate with one another through a high-speed network, and has opened the world to teachers and students via the internet. Gibson EMC has donated funds to these schools to be used towards classroom needs, including computer equipment.
CAREER PREPARATION
The Cooperative participates in annual job shadowing, Careers on Wheels programs for elementary students, career fairs for high school students, job interview coaching and judging events and public speaking judging events.
CHANGE FOR THE COMMUNITY
Gibson EMC's Change for the Community is an opt-in program funded by the Gibson EMC-served communities in Tennessee and Kentucky.
